Download the Julia executable (or installer) file.


  1. Go to the following address: \(~~\) https://julialang.org/downloads/

  2. Download the executable (installer) that suits your computer’s operating system, by clicking on the text surrounded by the red circle below:



  1. Save the executable file (or installer) in your computer’s folder of your choice.

  2. Do not install the program. We will do it in our first class (01 of February).

  3. Please, do not forget to bring your laptop to our first class with enough battery for 90 minutes.


Updating Pluto.


If you have Julia and Pluto already installed on your computer, after a while (one month is a good lag) it is recommended to update your Pluto installation. Follow the instructions below. It will take no more than 30 seconds.


  1. Open Julia (click on the executable: 3 small balls). You will see the Julia window (next image):


  1. In Julia’s window click simultaneously on the two keys:

    • In Windows: \(~~~~\) Alt Gr \(~~~~\) and \(~~~~\) ]

    • In Mac: \(~~~~\) option \(~~~~\) and \(~~~~\) 9


  1. Julia’s window will appear in Package mode ( (@v1.8) pkg> \(~\)), as you can see below:


  1. In the julia window (in package mode) simply type:

    • \(~~\) up \(~~~~\) as in the figure below

    • Then click on the keyboard on \(~~~~\) enter


  1. Let Julia update Pluto. It takes no more than 30 to 60 seconds.
